OCEAN CITY, N.J. (CBS) — A beloved pier on Ocean City’s boardwalk will close in a few months after nearly 100 years.

Jay Gillian, owner of Gillian’s Wonderland Pier, announced on Facebook Friday afternoon that his business will be closing suddenly.

“I have done my best to keep Wonderland going for as long as possible — through difficult challenges every year. But it is no longer a viable business. We will be ending our multi-year lease in a few months,” Gillian wrote in part.

Gillian’s Wonderland Pier will remain open through the Indian Summer Weekend, giving customers plenty of time to use their tickets.

Gillian says he is not yet sure what the future holds for the pier as the estate will no longer be his.
