Other figures in the alleged plan to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results were turning themselves in Wednesday morning, and Rudy Giuliani is on track to surrender.
In remarks ahead of his trip to Peach State, Giuliani told CNN he is headed to Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail to “comply with the law.” Giuliani’s team will meet with the district attorney’s office on Wednesday afternoon to negotiate a bail bond. Once that is done, Giuliani and his team must go to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office to surrender.
On Wednesday morning, Kenneth Chesebro, the architect of the Trump campaign’s bogus voter plot, surrendered at Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail, bringing the total to six of the 19 charged in the scheme. Unlike other defendants, Giuliani plans to negotiate bail and turn himself in all on the same day, sources told CNN, adding that the former New York mayor wants to complete the trial before the arrival of former President Donald Trump.
The former president, who has agreed to bail of $200,000, is expected to travel to Georgia Thursday evening for his surrender, sources familiar with the plans told CNN.
Trump will leave his golf club in Bedminster in the afternoon and return to New Jersey after his surrender. There are no expected events at his club upon his return. Trump’s team has also made arrangements for him to speak to reporters traveling with him in Georgia, the sources said, though the former president could ultimately choose not to.
Several other Trump co-defendants in the Georgia election subversion case are expected to surrender in Fulton County Jail on Wednesday, multiple sources tell CNN.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has charged Trump and 18 others with participating in plans to interfere with Georgia’s election results. All 19 co-defendants are expected to surrender before a Friday deadline set by Willis when she revealed last week’s sweeping indictment of attempts to reverse Trump’s 2020 election loss to Joe Biden.
Willis continues to meet with the suspects and negotiate the terms of a bond deal.
CNN previously reported that Giuliani would meet with Willis on Wednesday to discuss a bond deal, according to multiple sources, and that he would be traveling to Georgia with former New York Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik, who has worked with Giuliani to help him get a bond deal, according to one of those sources, a Georgia attorney will be representing him in this case.
According to a source, Giuliani is expected to have a lawyer with a Georgia license to represent him during the bond negotiations. It is unclear whether the lawyer will represent him throughout the case.
