Good Friday in Latin America

Throughout Latin America, Roman Catholic believers commemorated Good Friday with processions and ceremonies reenacting the crucifixion of Jesus.

In the Guatemalan city of Antigua, devotees dressed in purple and white carried a three-hundred-year-old religious float containing a 300-year-old life-size statue of Jesus carrying the cross during a procession. Brazilians lined the streets of the Complexo do Alemao favela to watch a reenactment of the Way of the Cross.

On a hill overlooking the Petare neighborhood of Caracas, Venezuela, men dressed as Roman soldiers tied men to wooden crosses as residents gathered to watch the reenactment of the crucifixion.

In Ecuador, thousands of penitents accompanied a statue of Jesus the Almighty as they marched through the capital, while in Cuba, worshipers celebrated Good Friday with a procession through the streets of Havana.
