NEW YORK — A grandfather was killed and three people, including two young children, were injured in a car accident in Queens on Tuesday.

It happened around 3:45 p.m. on 73rd Avenue near 260th Street in the Glen Oaks section.

Police say the driver of a black Nissan Pathfinder lost control and crashed head-on into a white Honda SUV.

According to police, a 67-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman were taking their grandchildren, ages 1 and 5, out of that SUV at the time.

The 67-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 65-year-old woman and both grandchildren all had severe leg trauma. All three were taken to local hospitals in stable condition.

Police say the driver of the Nissan Pathfinder, a 39-year-old man, has been taken to a local hospital for examination and is being questioned.

The investigation is ongoing.
