Green River Distilling Co. has won more awards.
The 2024 Esquire Spirit Awards recognized the distillery’s Green River Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, saying: “This bottle retails for $35, which is part of its appeal – but the taste is even better.
“It’s 95% a rye like you’d find from MGP in Indiana, but it drinks more like a Kentucky-style rye with notes of vanilla and caramel mixed with black pepper and baking spices.”
• Wheel Horse Whiskey, which is “distilled and aged at the historic Green River Distilling in Owensboro,” has released its new Double Oak 5-Year Bourbon.
Only 2,100 bottles were produced.
“After four years of maturation in the original charred oak barrels, the whiskey was transferred to new charred oak barrels to complete the maturation, giving the Double Oak Bourbon a rich, oaky flavor,” the press release said.
• Gulfstream Commercial Services says the Man Cave for Men Barber Shop will open in March at 234 Frederica St.
The announcement reads: “Expert grooming services, Bourbon bar, luxurious amenities, 10 premium hair stations, luxurious atmosphere.”
Cody and Arielle Waters are the owners.
• On Jan. 1, electric vehicle ownership fees in Kentucky will increase by 5% to account for changes in state road maintenance costs.
The new rates are $126 for electric vehicles, $126 for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and $63 for electric motorcycles.

The chain went bankrupt more than twenty years ago.
But Michael McDermott, son of Chi-Chi’s founder Marno McDermott, says he plans to revive the brand.
• The U.S. Department of Agriculture said this week it is investing $6.3 billion in rural and tribal communities in 44 states to expand access to a clean and reliable electric grid, provide safe drinking water and create good-paying jobs.
In Kentucky, Kenergy Corp. $54 million for electrical infrastructure loans and a loan guarantee program.
• The state announced this week that General Fund revenues increased 5.1% in November over last year’s total.
And road fund revenues fell 3.4% from November 2023.
• Tractor Supply Co. says it plans to open 90 stores next year in an effort to reach 3,200 locations in the long term.
And Academy Sports + Outdoors says it plans to open 20 to 25 stores by 2025.
