LIVONIA, Mich (CBS DETROIT) – Much of Michigan has been recovering from severe storms in the past 24 hours. Parts of the metro area saw many reports. Many CBS News Detroit viewers sent in videos of their cars being battered by the rain.

A large part of the metro area was hit by heavy hail on Thursday. It has caused many to find their car with broken windows or badly dented.

For dent removal professionals, the phones are red hot.

“With hail, probably around 15-16 [calls for repairs]plus a fleet of cars I have from Flint,” says Mike Zekaj of DentRisers Repair in Livonia.

Repairing a dented vehicle can be tedious as every dent has to be massaged out. Repairing one dent can take more than an hour. Its size and depth are contributing factors.

“Each dent has to be worked out with a bar or a group hole. One of the others if it’s too deep you have to go with a bar. You have to reduce that metal before it comes out or it won’t come out right.”

The make of the car determines how much the repair costs. The material the vehicle is made of determines whether you’re on the hook for hundreds or thousands.

“It can cost you $800 for small minor hail damage up to $4,000, $5,000, $6,000, $7,000. It can go up and up,” Zekaj said.

Zekaj said hail damage can completely damage even a car. It is recommended that stopping under the nearest tree or underpass during a hailstorm can prevent a costly problem.
