Henderson teens face charges over fireworks that injured four people at LDS meetinghouse

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – The two 18-year-old brothers who police say ignited a fireworks explosion that injured four people at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are facing charges.

According to police, Caden and Connor Renard entered the LDS Church around 8 p.m. on March 27 and threw an incendiary device on the floor, damaging the carpet at the front entrance of the church building and the gymnasium and cutting through a religiously sensitive painting stabbed.

When Henderson police and firefighters arrived on scene, they also found four people injured and minor injuries, according to the Henderson Police Department.

Clark County Nevada District Court charging documents show that Caden and Connor are charged with the following offenses:

  • Two counts of burglary of a building while in possession of a deadly weapon

  • Two counts of manufacture and/or possession of an explosive or incendiary device

  • Two counts of possession of an explosive or incendiary device in or near a public or private place

  • One count of damage to property used for religious purposes

  • Two counts of using explosives to damage or destroy property, knowing or having reason to believe that a human being is inside at the time

  • Four charges of battery with use of a deadly weapon

  • Two cases of first-degree arson

The brothers will be heard in court on Thursday, June 20 at 9:30 am
