Mike Lynch is one of several crew drivers who were clearing the runways at Logan Airport so flights could get on and off.

He said the cold temperatures make the work extremely challenging.

“With freezing temperatures coming, it’s too cold to put down our chemical. We have to use other resources. Sand, just to keep those conditions as dry as possible,” he told WBZ.

Avoiding delays at the airport

For flights to take off successfully, everyone has to work together, especially on a morning like Monday.

“There’s a lot of coordination between the airport operations group, the airport facilities group, ATC and airlines. We’re actually putting out two different teams. One on the runways, one on taxiways,” Bob Lynch said.

Having experienced many winter storms, they know what to expect.

“It’s a challenge when you can’t see in front of you through those snowstorms. I know this like the back of my hand. We’ll get through it, we’ll get home safely to our families and get the runway open for business,” Mike Lynch said.
