HILLSDALE – A Hillsdale man faces prison time for a slew of crimes he allegedly committed on Nov. 15 in Cambria Township.
Larry Edwin Estel, 47, was reportedly driving a motorcycle near Bear Lake when Hillsdale County Sheriff Scott Hodshire tried to stop him for a traffic violation.
Estel took off at a high rate of speed, leading Hodshire to the public access to Bear Lake and back to Lake Wilson Road before heading to Cole Road, where his motorcycle eventually ran out of gas.
Estel fled the scene on foot before being captured by Hodshire a few minutes later north of the intersection of Cole Road and Sand Lake Road. Other officers had responded to assist the sheriff.

He has been charged with fourth-degree fleeing police, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and misdemeanor assault. He is tentatively scheduled to be formally arraigned in Hillsdale County’s 1st Judicial Circuit Court in December. 9.
Estel faces up to five years in prison if found guilty.
He is assisted in the cases by lawyer Kimm Burger.
