PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Fantasy football season is in full swing with the NFL kicking off this week, including the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night against the Green Bay Packers.
Backup Phillies catcher Garrett Stubbs is the commissioner of the league with his teammates and said in an interview with ESPN for Sunday Night Baseball against the Atlanta Braves that the winner takes home $31,000. Second place gets $12,000, third place gets $5,000, the league highlight gets $5,000 and weekly payouts for the highest score are $500, Stubbs said. The buy-in is $5,000.
In every fantasy football league, there is always someone who consistently suggests bad trades to other members. In the Phillies league, Stubbs said that shortstop Trea Turner is the worst when it comes to trades.
“Trea is probably taking advantage of everybody in the league,” said Stubbs, who would not reveal the name of the league. “Because Trea is going to make ridiculous deals once the league is over. I think Trea is going to slide money under the table to make these deals work.”
Last week, the Phillies held a golf competition at Citizens Bank Park to determine the No. 1 overall pick, which was won by catcher JT Realmuto. Each player had to hit the ball as close to the pin as possible to determine the draft order.
Stubbs said there is no penalty for whoever finishes last in the league, but he is confident that with the creative minds they have in the dressing room they can come up with something.
“We’re going to have to do something, like walk around Center City in a Mets or Braves uniform,” Stubbs said.
