The U.S. women’s gymnastics team once again earned their place atop the Olympic podium after a gold medal-winning performance during the team finals on July 30. While devoted family members and celebrity fans like Serena WilliamsNatalie Portman and Nicole Kidman watched from the stands, Team USA gymnasts Simone BilesSuni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera and Jade Carey reveled in their glory.
They hugged and high-fived, but one celebratory “girlhood” moment the gymnasts shared is going viral.
Shortly after the U.S. women’s gymnastics team learned they had won gold, a microphone on the broadcast picked up a conversation between Lee and Biles, briefly discussing the TikToks they planned to record with their gold medals.
“I want to chew the gold medals,” Biles told Lee. “Okay, and I want to do the one that [says] “Imagine what we would do if we didn’t win,” Lee replied.
The exchange between Lee and Biles was widely discussed and shared online, with sports fans and social media users celebrating how Lee and Biles are “just like us” and how the exchange is a sign of “real girl power.”
Just hours after the public learned of the gymnasts’ plans during the live broadcast, Lee and Biles followed up on the aforementioned TikToks for the world to follow.
“Olympic gold medalists,” Lee captioned it.
“Tastes like gold,” Biles wrote in her TikTok caption.
American gymnasts’ excitement over filming TikToks featuring their medals seems entirely justified, given how online the Olympic athletes have been this year.
Since the Summer Games kicked off on July 26, rising stars and seasoned Olympians have been documenting their lives leading up to and during the Games.
