New Lenox, ill. (CBS) — Of A threat of collecting ice from WednesdayIllinois Department of Transportation Crews prepared a day in advance.
In the southwest of the suburbs New Lenox Tuesday afternoon, Idot trucks were set up for inspection and cleaning, and crews attracted the teams.
But one of the most impressive work took place in the Salt Dome. Idot-Conditions moves 1,000 tonnes of salt on Tuesday to the 2500-ton Building and Restock that they ordered well before this storm was in the prediction.
Idot leaders, however, think that the majority of the fight against the ice does not include snow scrapers. Instead, pre -treatment is their most important strategy.
“We are not looking for a huge team operation,” said Castaneda. “In fact, you know, with the prediction it is saying that we will not get a large accumulation of snow.”
A filling of salt was ordered well before the threat of ice came in the prediction and the order arrived exactly on time.
“At the moment we have a very good amount of salt. We are completely filled. You know, we are ready,” said Idot spokeswoman Maria Castaneda. “Usually, depending on how the weather comes in, it really depends on how we will treat it.”
The bridges and viaducts freeze first. Crews try to avoid slick places for an iDot region with many increased spaces and more kilometers, Idot said than most.
The threat of ice is expected to hit exactly one month after the last time that CBS News Chicago has caught up with the new Lenox Idot -Crew. The Chicago area has largely saved an overnight stay of January 5.
Now Idot is waiting to see what is happening this time.
“We have not yet had our typical or our huge storm that I have seen here,” said Castaneda. “Again, our southern parts of the state here have been rather hard, but yes, you haven’t seen it yet.”
The site in New Lenox gets its instructions from leaders in Schaumburg. The Schaumburg -IDOT office usually decides at 10.30 am how they will man a storm -whether they will use a full, half or quarter of crews.
This new Lenox site has more kilometers and bridges than many other parts of the area.
A winter weather advice starts at noon on Wednesday and continues until early Thursday morning for the ice event.
