Important dates leading up to election day

Election Day is in two months.

It is important to know the key dates to exercise your right to vote this election season. Voters will choose the next president of the United States and who will hold seats in local government.

In a few weeks, the California Secretary of State will send the official Voter Information Guide to registered voters.

How to register to vote: Simple Steps to Vote in San Joaquin County in November

Here are some important dates you need to know before Election Day.

Important dates

  • September 6: The voter information guide is available online.

  • 26 Sept – 15 Oct: The Secretary of State’s office will send out the official voter information guide.

  • Oct 7: Starting today, county election officials will send registered voters a ballot in the mail.

  • Oct 7: The polling stations are open.

  • Oct 8 – Nov 5: All provinces must open polling stations for mail-in ballots.

  • October 21: Last day to register to vote in the general election. To check voter registration status, visit MyVoterStatus.

  • Oct 22 – Nov 5: Same-day registration. Voters may register “conditionally” and cast a provisional ballot during this period.

  • November 5: Election Day. Polling stations are open from 7:00 to 20:00.

  • November 12: The deadline for mailing a ballot is the United States Postal Service, provided the mailed ballot is postmarked on or before Election Day.

  • December 5: Last day for county election officials to certify election results.

  • December 13: The declaration of vote is the final official election result, certified by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and published on the website.

  • Local candidates and local measures

To register to vote or update your registration online, visit registertovote.ca.gov. To fill out a physical form, you can find voter registration applications at post offices and local libraries.
