Want to know which state is most crucial to both former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris’ path to the White House? Just look at where they’ve made the most visits: Pennsylvania.
Since Harris entered the presidential race in July, she and Trump, along with their running mates — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance — have made Pennsylvania their most visited state for campaign stops on the battleground map.
As NBC News has charted, both campaigns have swept the state in recent months, with their presidential and vice presidential candidates making about 50 appearances in the last three months, which is by far the largest total of any swing state.
Campaign dollars are also flowing into Pennsylvania. According to AdImpact, one in four dollars spent on advertising during the presidential race from September 1 to 20 was spent in the state.
Pennsylvania offers the most Electoral College votes among hotly contested states. Recent surveys have found the overall race in Pennsylvania to be within the margin of error for polls, with a Quinnipiac University survey this month putting Harris up 3 percentage points, and a Philadelphia Inquirer/New York Times/Siena College poll showing her up 4 points increased. and The Wall Street Journal, Trump had a 1-point lead.
President Joe Biden narrowly won the state in 2020, while Trump won a razor-thin victory in 2016.
(Editor’s note: The map includes campaign stops and scheduled campaign appearances through Saturday, Oct. 19. The map will be continually updated as more appearances take place.)
