Interstate 40 near Winslow reopens after closing due to early morning winter weather

Interstate 40 is open after heavy snow in the northern part of the state closed parts of the highway Monday morning, according to a spokesperson for the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Around 6 a.m., eastbound I-40 at US 93 and westbound I-40 at Winslow were closed due to adverse weather and winter weather incidents, ADOT said in a notice to X, formerly known as Twitter.

Both sections of I-40 have reopened to travelers, according to a spokesperson for ADOT and AZ511, a web page where drivers can check travel and road conditions.

Northern Arizona could still see rain and snow throughout Monday, especially in areas south of the I-40 corridor, according to the National Weather Service. Stronger storms can produce brief heavy rain, snow and hail.

Conditions are expected to clear on Tuesday, but rain and snow chances return on Friday and Saturday.

For more information on updated weather conditions, follow the National Weather Service for updates and AZ511 for road conditions.
