Investigation into Montgomery County school threats leads to arrest of woman and teen

Two people, including a 13-year-old, have been arrested after being accused this week of making threats against two Montgomery County school districts.

This week, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office investigated two separate threats against Northridge Schools and Dayton Public Schools.

Rayona Hunt, 23, was identified Tuesday after making terroristic threats against both Northridge Schools in Harrison Twp. and Dayton Public Schools. She was arrested Thursday and booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

A sheriff’s office spokesman said charges of making terroristic threats, inciting panic and obstructing official business were approved by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

A second threat against Northridge Schools was found on social media on Wednesday.

“Thanks to the quick response of several students who reported the concerning post about Northridge Schools, investigators were able to quickly identify the individual responsible, a 13-year-old student,” the sheriff’s office spokesperson said.

The teenager was questioned and taken into custody. The charges against the student are being assessed by the Public Prosecution Service.

In a statement, Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck said the threat of violence against schools “is not only disruptive, but deeply troubling to our community.”

“I want to be clear: incidents like this will not be tolerated. We will quickly identify, track and charge anyone who threatens the safety of our students and staff. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and continue to report suspicious activity so we can take immediate action,” Streck said.

As shown on News Center 7 at 5:30Parents like James Strokes are fed up with these threats and say they are taking away their students’ education.

“As a parent, I think you have to make sure the kids are in a safe environment,” Strokes said.
