The Israeli army is investigating its actions in sixteen attacks in the Gaza Strip on suspicion of violating the law.
The attacks took place between October 21 and November 2.
The Israeli military said on Friday that the assessment of the cases was still ongoing and therefore could not provide details.
According to Haaretz, these include airstrikes on residential buildings and former school buildings, which the Palestinians say killed many people.
In the case of an attack on a former school building in late October, the military said at the time that troops had attacked a command center of the Islamist Hamas movement. Numerous measures have been taken to reduce the risk to civilians, Israel said.
The Israeli bombardment and ground offensive in the Gaza Strip since October 2023 have killed thousands of Palestinians, including many civilians, while the Israeli army has waged war against Hamas and other terrorist organizations.
In all sixteen attacks, it is suspected that the attacks were disproportionate or violated international humanitarian law, Haaretz reported.
The newspaper says the internal investigations also serve to forestall calls for international investigations into suspected war crimes.
The investigations in Israel are being conducted by a military commission that the army says is independent.
The results will then be forwarded to the military attorney general, who will decide whether to open a criminal investigation.
However, according to the newspaper, the investigations can take years and are often stopped.
According to the military, nearly 2,000 incidents have been submitted to the committee for review since the war began more than a year ago.
The military did not say whether these investigations have had any criminal consequences so far, and if so, what.
