Officials dismissed Jauan Jennings in the first half of Sunday. It denied him the chance to reach 1,000 meters.
Jennings was penalized on back-to-back plays for aggressively blocking Cardinals defensive backs Starling Thomas and Sean Murphy-Bunting on consecutive plays. Thomas and Murphy-Bunting were also penalized, and Jennings and Murphy-Bunting were disqualified.
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game that he had no idea why Jennings was ejected.
“I know Jauan blocks the whistle on every play,” Shanahan said. ‘I know that usually if you throw a punch you get sent off. I didn’t see one, and he didn’t tell me he threw a punch. So we’ll have to find out.’
Jennings got some vindication this week as the NFL did not fine Jennings and instead fined Thomas and Murphy-Bunting.
Thomas pays $5,083 and Murphy-Bunting loses $11,817.
