It’s been a week and a half since former President Jimmy Carter passed away, and his official state funeral will take place on Thursday. The services will be covered by multiple television networks.
The former president died on December 29 at the age of 100, as previously reported by the Deseret News.
Carter’s funeral services began Saturday in the former president’s home state of Georgia, where he lay in rest at the Carter Presidential Center, USA Today reported.
On Tuesday, Carter’s remains left Georgia and traveled through Washington, D.C., where he lay in state in the rotunda of the United States Capitol.
His official state funeral will begin on January 9 at 8:00 AM MST. The service will take place at the Washington National Cathedral.
The motorcade to the cathedral started at 7:15 a.m. MST.
All five living U.S. presidents are expected to attend the service. According to CNN, this will be the first time since George HW Bush’s funeral in 2018 that all living presidents will meet in person.
After the service concludes, Carter’s body will be flown back to Georgia at 1:45 PM MST for a private service at Maranatha Baptist Church. He will then be buried at his home in Plains, Georgia, according to USA Today.
