Jonesville man charged with sex crime where a weapon was ready for investigation

HILLSDALE – A Jonesville man arrested July 7 by Hillsdale City Police Department is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. on charges of sex crimes involving a weapon.

Terence Shawn Jenkins, 59, was arraigned in 2B District Court on July 10 on a single charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a weapon, which carries a life sentence in Michigan.

The Hillsdale County Attorney’s Office did not immediately specify what type of weapon was allegedly used in the commission of the alleged crime, nor did it state the age of the alleged victim.

Jenkins was able to post 10% of a $300,000 bond after his arraignment to secure his parole, pending future hearings.

He has signed Sharon Clark Woodside to represent him.

At the preliminary investigation hearing, the Hillsdale County Attorney’s Office bears the burden of determining probable cause that a crime was committed and probable cause that Jenkins is responsible for the crimes he is charged with.

If both elements are met, the case will be transferred to the 1st Judicial Circuit Court for further hearings.

Jenkins faces life in prison or any number of years if convicted as charged.
