‘The Royal Hotel’, which also stars Hugo Weaving, will be released in cinemas on October 6
Julia Garner and Jessica Henwick team up for a spooky new thriller.
On Thursday, Neon released a trailer for its new thriller The Royal Hotelwhich stars Garner, 29, and Henwick, 31, as a pair of Americans who travel Australia and take jobs in a bar to earn more money.
The trailer meets the couple’s characters Hanna and Liv as they apply for a job and arrive at the bar of the Royal Hotel in a remote Australian town owned by Billy (Hugo Weaving). Hanna and Liv initially decide to work temporarily at the bar until they can earn enough money to travel elsewhere, but they soon become uncomfortable with many of the patrons, who make sexually charged comments to them.

An official synopsis for the film describes Hanna and Liv as two “best friends backpacking in Australia” and quickly losing their money.
“Liv, seeking adventure, convinces Hanna to take a temporary live-in job behind the bar of a pub called ‘The Royal Hotel’ in a remote mining town in the Outback,” the synopsis reads.

“Bar owner Billy and a host of locals give the girls a riotous introduction to Down Under drinking culture, but soon Hanna and Liv find themselves caught up in a nerve-racking situation that quickly grows beyond their control,” the synopsis adds.

The new film comes from Australian filmmaker Kitty Green, with whom she previously worked Ozark star Garner in her 2019 film The assistant. Green cowhide The Royal Hotel‘s script with screenwriter and actor Oscar Redding.
In addition to Garner, Weaving and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery actress Henwick, the film also stars Bree Bain, Toby Wallace, Ursula Yovich, Daniel Henshall, James Frecheville and Herbert Nordrum.
The Royal Hotel had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival last Friday and will screen at the Toronto Film Festival on Thursday. The film will be released in theaters on October 6.
