Kevin Costner and his estranged wife, Christine, are officially leading separate lives now that she’s moved out of the family home – but their divorce remains as controversial as ever as they battle over her understanding of their premarital agreement.
Christine is “relieved” that she is no longer home
It’s been a little over two weeks since Christine was forced to move from the Carpinteria, California, an area estimated to be worth more than $100 million, to a smaller home owned by the Yellowstone actor.
A family source told People magazine last weekend that the former accessories designer is “happy” to be out of the beach house, even if it’s just a temporary fix while she secures a permanent home in the tony Santa Barbara area.
“Christine hopes there will be less drama now,” the insider told the outlet. “Kevin got what he wanted – she’s out of the family home. Christine is relieved about it. She’s happy to move on.”
Although a report stated that Christine had found a new $35,000 rental home to move into, with the $129,000 in monthly child support awarded by the judge, that second move has not been confirmed.
“Swiftie” Kevin went to Taylor Swift’s concert with teenage daughter
They’ve both been trying to find their new normal since Christine filed for divorce on May 1, despite Kevin making it clear he didn’t want his second marriage to end. Last month, they took their three children — Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13 — on separate vacations. This month, Kevin bonded with daughter Grace at Taylor Swift’s Aug. 7 concert. From a private suite at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, father and daughter listened to the singing superstar release her hits, including her breakup anthem, “We Are Never Getting Back Together.”
A few days later, he stated that he was “officially a Swiftie” in his first social media post in over a month. Kevin – who leads his own band – said he was “absolutely blown away” when he saw Swift perform. He also said he had a “great” time with his youngest of seven children.
Over the weekend, Kevin, who has been working on his Horizon: An American Saga since quitting Yellowstonewas photographed on the road in a new Land Rover Defender.
Their contentious divorce battle continues – about the word ‘understood’
New court documents obtained by Yahoo Entertainment show that the exes’ divorce battle, which used to be a battle over pots and pans, is as controversial as ever.
The exes have a Nov. 27 start date for a lawsuit that will determine the validity of their 2004 premarital agreement and they are currently in the discovery process. However, Kevin’s divorce attorney, Laura Wasser, accuses Christine of acting “in bad faith” when it comes to disclosing her disputes with the prenuptial agreement.
Kevin’s team alleges that Christine has “steadfastly refused” to say whether she will challenge the prenuptial agreement, giving “evasive” answers or “avoiding it”.[ing] answering many “of the standard questions. Wasser also disagrees with Christine’s legal team claiming” that she doesn’t understand words like “understood” or “negotiate,” so she “cannot answer certain prenuptial questions” ‘.
Wasser points out that Christine was asked to admit or deny the statement that she “understood the premarital agreement before signing it.” Her counsel objected, saying the question was “vague as to the scope and meaning of the term ‘understood’. Therefore, the Petitioner cannot grant or deny this request.”
There were similar objections to many of the questions.
Christine claims she cannot admit or deny that she understood the Premarital Agreement (“PMA”) because she (and apparently all of her lawyers) do not understand the word ‘understood’, Wasser writes. worst kind. “Understood” isn’t a technical or mysterious word… The idea that Christine and the multiple seasoned lawyers who represent her don’t understand the word “understood” and can’t answer this simple, straightforward RFA [requests for admission] is frivolous.”
Wasser says her team even gave Christine’s counsel “a definition of ‘understood’…” She claimed the objection was only made “for the purpose of delaying” and called the many objections “frivolous”.
Wasser shows documentation of attempts to get Christine to answer the questions, apparently nowhere. So she’s seeking financial sanctions against Christine, who she says has “just thrown up roadblock after roadblock in an unwarranted effort to prevent her from acting on this discovery.” They also want Christine to cover Kevin’s legal costs in dragging this out.
This is a big money divorce, with an estimated net worth of around $400 million for Kevin. However, they have a prenuptial agreement, which Kevin wants enforced. According to the documents, there will be a court hearing on September 6 on this new discovery dispute. Before that, a hearing will take place on August 31.
