Kings’ Kevin Huerter is undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery after a torn labrum

Kevin Huerter’s season is over.

The Sacramento Kings guard will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, his agent told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday. It is expected that Huerter will fully recover in time for the start of next season.

Huerter went down early in the Kings’ 121-111 win against the Memphis Grizzlies on March 18. While driving to the hoop in the first quarter, Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane came through and fouled him hard on his left arm. Huerter fell to the ground and remained there for some time before leaving the match holding his left wrist, clearly in significant pain.

Huerter averaged 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game this season, his second with the Kings. The 25-year-old, who the Atlanta Hawks drafted in the No. 19 pick out of Maryland in 2018, is in the second year of a four-year, $65 million contract.

The Kings have a 42-30 record heading into Friday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, who defeated them 132-96 on Wednesday night in Sacramento. The Kings are in eighth place in the Western Conference standings, but are just one game back of the Mavericks – who are in sixth place, just above the cutoff for the play-in tournament.
