Anthony Davis won’t miss a moment after his latest eye injury.
The Los Angeles Lakers star confirmed Tuesday that he is good to go and will play in Wednesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies after taking an accidental shot to the eye on Sunday. Davis visited an ophthalmologist on Monday as a precaution, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamim.
“A couple scratches in my eye,” Davis said. “But as far as the medical term and things like that, I’m not 100% sure. But I have permission to play.”
Davis came up with a huge block against Toronto Raptors big man Jakob Poeltl at the rim in their 123-103 win over the Raptors on Sunday night at Crypto.com Arena. But right after filling Poeltl, Davis accidentally took a shot in the left eye.
That sent Davis straight to the court, where he remained for several moments before being helped off the floor and taken to the locker room.

The eye is the same eye that Davis struggled with last season. He suffered a corneal abrasion in March, and re-aggravated the injury about a month later. Davis said his eyelid was briefly swollen from the first hit last season.
Although his eye was still red Tuesday, Davis insists he’s good to go. And while they may help, he won’t be wearing goggles on the field.
“When I was younger, I wore goggles for three years,” Davis said. ‘I just don’t want it 1731455473to be honest. Of course the doctors said I didn’t have to do that… If it gets to the point where my ophthalmologist tells me I have to wear them, then of course I will. But I have been given permission to play without them.”
Davis averaged 31.2 points and 10.4 rebounds in nine games with the Lakers this season, his sixth with the team. He has also shot nearly 58% from the field and is averaging two blocks per game.
The Lakers, who have now won two in a row, enter Wednesday’s game with a 6-4 record this season. The game against the Grizzlies is not part of the NBA Cup, which kicks off league-wide on Tuesday evening. The Lakers will face the San Antonio Spurs in their first tournament game on Friday.
