Lara Trump tried to paint Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris as unfit for office, but Trump’s lack of self-awareness turned the attack into a massive attack on herself.
Trump, the co-chair of the Republican National Committee and daughter-in-law of the GOP presidential candidate Donald Trumpclaimed on an episode of her podcast “Right View” on Wednesday that the former prosecutor and senator “failed her entire career.”
She added that Joe Biden only selected Harris as his running mate for vice president in 2020 “based on the way she looked, based on the fact that this is a woman, based on the fact that she was a minority woman.”
Biden had said at the time that he had chosen Harris, who is of Black and South Asian descent, for several factors, including her gender. He also said he wanted someone who was “ready to be president” and had an important perspective on important issues.
Lara Trump said on “The Right View” that the fact that gender is part of Biden’s equation is “really disgusting.”
“I’m a woman. Do me a favor: Don’t ever give me a position based on the fact that I’m a woman,” she said. “I either earned it or I didn’t! And that’s it. That’s all I need.”
Many people on social media found Trump’s comments amusing, saying she ignored an inconvenient detail: that she was ostensibly selected as RNC co-chair because of her family ties to Donald Trump, making her a “nepotistic” appointment.
When her role as co-chair was first announced in March, the person who nominated her appeared to acknowledge that she was not qualified for the position.
“In a world where qualifications are often measured by titles and years of experience, we are reminded of a powerful truth: God does not call the qualified; he qualifies the called,” RNC member Beth Bloch said at the time. “Lara Trump is the embodiment of this truth.”
Unsurprisingly, social media users pointed out the irony of Trump’s claim that she only wants a job based on merit.
This is gaslighting in the extreme! She is only RNC chair because she is married to Eric Trump. Never in a million years would she be considered for RNC chair if Trump hadn’t taken over the party. These people are unreal. Why does the MSM let them get away with it?
