The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 3.8 earthquake near Malibu on Friday afternoon.
The agency says the earthquake occurred around 2:15 p.m. PST with an epicenter about 7 miles outside an area of the coastal city in Southern California. It was previously reported to have a preliminary magnitude of 3.5, before being upgraded about half an hour later.
At 2:26 p.m., the USGS reported another much smaller quake, measuring only 1.8, about half a mile south.
Last month Malibu was rattled by a force of 4.7 earthquake, with tremors felt as far away as the Inland Empire and parts of the Central Valley. More than a dozen aftershocks followed within two hours, including a magnitude 3.4 earthquake.
