Man accused of threatening to shoot girlfriend arrested after 3-hour standoff with SPD

A man was arrested Monday after holding police at bay for more than three hours.

It all happened near Northwest 85th and 3rd Street in Greenwood. Police said they were investigating a gun threat at a home that was divided into multiple units.

Officers, Explosive Ordnance Disposal and SWAT teams were all on site and standing by.

While police have released few details about what happened, we spoke to a man who said he lives on the top floor of the house where the standoff took place. He said he heard an argument coming from the basement this morning and it quickly escalated.

“He had that gun, you know, and he never should have had that gun. He’s inexperienced with certain things, so he let things snowball,” the man said.

He claims his roommate pointed a gun at his girlfriend’s head and then someone called the police, prompting the standoff.

We were able to speak to the Seattle Police Department, who would not verify the roommate’s allegations. Police said there is currently conflicting information about the person arrested and whether there are any injuries.

At around 7pm, the SPD said the woman had been safely removed from the home and a man had been taken into custody for an harassment investigation.
