Man and teenager shot dead at swimming pool in Newhall apartment complex

A man and a 16-year-old boy were found shot dead by the swimming pool of an apartment complex in Newhall today.

Authorities were notified at 10:50 a.m. Saturday of a shooting at the Village Apartment Homes at 23700 Valle del Oro, just north of Newhall Avenue, according to the murder of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Hugo Reynaga.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, Reynaga said. Their identities were not immediately made public.

Witnesses saw a man reach over the pool fence and fire shots before running to the apartment complex’s parking lot, he said. Deputies stopped a vehicle that matched the description of witnesses and detained two young men who were inside, Reynaga said. Their identities have not been disclosed.

Early research shows the shooting may be gang-related, investigators said.
