MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — A 21-year-old man was arrested in Minneapolis on Wednesday after allegedly shooting multiple times and then entering a home where children as young as 5 years old were living.
According to police, just before 6 p.m., officers with the Minneapolis Police Department responded to a residence in the 2900 block of Russell Avenue North after receiving a ShotSpotter activation. When officers arrived, neighbors told them a man had fired multiple shots before fleeing into a detached garage. He then exited the garage, fired more shots, and entered an occupied residence.
Officers set up a perimeter around the home and contacted people inside. Within a half hour, several adults and children, including the 5-year-old, were safely removed from the home, police said.
According to police, the suspect was arrested after jumping out of a window. The residents knew him.
The suspect was taken into custody at the Hennepin County Jail. A woman was also arrested for obstruction after she interfered with officers’ actions, police said.
The residents were able to return to the home after the window from which the shooter tried to flee was secured.
