A Lubbock man was killed after the ATV he was riding collided with a tractor-trailer in northeastern Lubbock County Sunday night.
David Ryan Rocha, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash reported around 6 p.m. Sunday at FM 400 and County Road 5840, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Investigators believe Rocha was driving a Kawasaki four-wheeler eastbound on CR 5840 when he ran a stop sign and failed to yield the right of way to a Peterbilt tractor-trailer traveling southbound on FM 400. Investigators believe the driver of the tractor-trailer attempted to avoid contact with the ATV, but the two vehicles collided at the intersection. Rocha, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a man from Hale Center, was not injured.
According to the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were forced to close FM 400 in both directions for most of Sunday evening due to the crash.
Other factors that contributed to the crash are not immediately clear as the investigation is ongoing.
