Man dies after being shot in front yard of Kansas City home, police say

A man died in a shooting in Kansas City on Monday night, police said.

Officers responded to the area of ​​59th Street and Virginia Avenue around 11:40 p.m., where they found a shot, unresponsive man in the front yard of a home, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

Emergency services took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident was Kansas City’s 124th homicide this year, according to records tracked by The Star, which include fatal police shootings. There were 101 homicides around this time last year.

Police are asking anyone who has heard or seen anything to contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the anonymous TIPS hotline at 816-474-8477. A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information provided to TIPS that leads to an arrest in this case.
