Here is a rundown of recent incidents and agency announcements in Ventura County:

Man hit by train in Ventura suffers traumatic injuries

A man hit by a train in Ventura on Monday afternoon suffered traumatic injuries, authorities said.

The Ventura Police and Fire Department responded to a report of a train versus pedestrian on the trestles behind the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 2:28 p.m. The area was described as being near Front and Garden streets.

Officers found the man with serious head and arm injuries and a woman with minor scratches, police commissioner said. Mike Brown. Both were described as being in their early twenties.

The man was transported to Ventura County Medical Center and the woman chose not to be transported, said Jeremy Henderson, chief of the Ventura Fire Battalion.

Ventura police continued the investigation several hours after the incident, but it wasn’t immediately clear if the pedestrians would be charged with felony misdemeanor for going onto the tracks, Brown said.

Amtrak officials said train 784 was traveling south to San Diego from Goleta when it struck the individuals who were on the tracks.

None of the 270 passengers or crew on board the train were injured, Amtrak spokesman W. Kyle Anderson said in an email. The passenger train company was working with the Ventura Police Department to investigate the incident, he said.
