Man pleads not guilty to shooting death

July 11 – Gabriel Angel Aguayo, 19, of Linda pleaded not guilty at a hearing Tuesday on charges of first degree murder after a shooting resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy.

At around 11:30 p.m. on July 6, Yuba County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a shooting at Shasta Glen Apartments in Linda. Upon arrival, officers found a 13-year-old boy with a suspected gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures by emergency personnel at the scene, the youngster succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

Hours after the incident, investigators located and arrested Aguayo at a residence on Gossett Way in Linda, officials said. Two other youths were arrested on the spot for violating their probation.

On Tuesday, the Yuba County Supreme Court ordered Aguayo to be taken into custody without bail, the Yuba County district attorney said. Aguayo will return to court at 9 a.m. on August 16 for a preliminary hearing

If Aguayo is convicted of the charge of murder and use of a firearm, he could face a prison sentence of 40 years to life, the prosecutor said.
