Man who tried to break into a tow yard gets jail time

SPRINGFIELD, Mich. (WOOD) — Officers say they have arrested a man who tried to break into a towing company near Battle Creek Sunday morning.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said it received a call around 10:15 a.m. from someone reporting a suspicious man at the Springfield tow yard. The caller said the man was driving through vehicles in the courtyard, even though it is closed on Sundays.

Officers soon arrived and said they saw the man run over by a car. They detained him, searched him and found drug paraphernalia, they said. They then arrested the man for snooping.

When investigators reviewed the building’s surveillance video, they saw the man trying to break into the building just before they arrived, the sheriff’s office said.

Officers are pursuing attempted burglary charges against the man, a 31-year-old from Bedford Township whose name has not been released pending his arraignment.
