MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis man will hear his sentence Wednesday a 2021 crash that killed a Burnsville priest.

Trejean Derrell Curry, 28, pleaded guilty to the Oct. 25, 2021, death of 73-year-old Father Dennis Dempsey.

The accident happened in Rosemount, near County Road 42 and Auburn Avenue. Police found Dempsey in a ditch along the road. He died on the spot. A sedan with a broken windshield was parked nearby.

Curry told investigators that Dempsey swerved in front of him and he couldn’t stop or move forward because there were cars next to him and behind him.

His driver’s license was revoked at the time of the crash, but he had no alcohol or controlled substances in his system.

Dempsey was an avid cyclist who had been a priest for 41 years, serving in parishes in Minnesota and two missions to Venezuela.

Curry’s trial was scheduled to begin earlier this year until he struck a last-minute plea deal.

His sentencing is expected to take place at 9am
