A domestic disturbance in Conover early Friday morning led to a police shooting after a man armed with a knife refused to comply with officers’ commands.
Investigators search for home where Conover Mom, 2, was last seen a year ago
The incident occurred at approximately 2:06 a.m. on January 24, 2025, on Lylehaven Drive NW.
Police responded to a call reporting that a man had approached his wife with a knife before leaving the home on foot. Officers located the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Jason Wesley Ledford of Cherryville, near Hefner Drive NW and County Home Road. Ledford was armed with a knife and advanced on an officer, causing the officer to appear and strike him in the upper extremity.
Following the shooting, officers took Ledford into custody and began life-saving measures. He was initially transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center and later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. In accordance with department policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
The investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting as the officer remains on leave.
