Mayim Bialik says a ‘Big Bang Theory’ reboot would make her ‘super happy’ after reuniting with co-star Melissa Rauch on ‘Night Court’

For those who are missing The Big Bang theory since it went off the air in 2019, co-stars Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch have been giving fans a nostalgic moment on screen. Bialik will guest star on Tuesday’s episode Night Courtwho reunites her with her ‘sister from another gentleman’.

“It was really fantastic to be able to work with Melissa again. Obviously we have continued our friendship and our relationship over the years. Big Bang theory ended,” Bialik told Yahoo Entertainment. “I’m proud of everything she’s continued to work on since then Big Bang theory and just being a part of something that’s also so iconic from my childhood – I was a huge one Night Court fan. I wasn’t allowed to watch it because it was too late… so a lot of nice things came together here.”

In the episode, Bialik plays herself – “an unstable version of myself,” the actress joked – here as a defendant in Judge Abby Stone’s (Rauch) courtroom. Rauch’s character is great Blossom fan, the ’90s sitcom that Bialik starred in, but things take a turn when Stone discovers that Bialik is actually stalking her.

“There [was] a huge nostalgia factor,” Bialik said of working with Rauch. ‘Melissa was a fan of it Blossomwhich is kind of funny to me because when I worked with her on Big Bang theoryI had been out of the industry for so long. I had gone to graduate school, I had kids. So for me, Blossom was so far in my past and it was very funny to realize that Melissa was the age of someone who was actively watching it. So she and I have always had a bit of a nostalgic connection because of that. So have [Blossom] kind of brought back was nice.”

Bialik said she and Rauch have remained close over the years … even if that’s not the case Big Bang theory group text.

“We communicate individually and sometimes in groups. But you know when Big Bang theory ended, like group chats – I don’t even think we’re anything, but believe it or not. So no, we never had one giant group chat, but we do communicate in individual patterns,” Bialik said. ‘I love doing comedy with [Melissa]. I love being playful with her, and those were some of my favorite moments Big Bang theory.”

When asked about her opinion on a Big Bang theory reboot, Bialik was decidedly optimistic, unlike co-star Jim Parsons, who has closed the door on the idea (at least for now). Bialik and Parsons played love interests on the show and appeared together in the final episode of the prequel series Young Sheldon.

“With all due respect to Jim, I think there is a lot of interest and love for these characters and I would love to revisit them [it] in any way,” she said. “I think we all have a lot of respect for the brand, so to speak, and what we’ve been able to create. I loved being able to still work with Jim and do some stuff Young Sheldon. But for me, I understand the peculiarity and would love the opportunity to visit Amy again if it ever came up.”

Night Court airs Tuesdays at 8:30 PM ET on NBC.
