NEW YORK — All businesses in New York City will have to dispose of their waste in containers starting next March.
It’s the latest step in the city’s war against rats.
“Our businesses produce 20 million pounds of waste every day. Come March, all those black bags will be off our streets,” Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday.
Since the end of July, waste containers have been mandatory for food-related businesses. The mayor’s office says its rat strategies are working, as sightings are down 20% this summer compared to last year.
