(CBS DETROIT) – Motorists should expect more road closures on Interstate 696 this weekend.
The eastern side of the highway between I-275 and US-24 (Telegraph Road) will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, August 11 through 7 p.m. Saturday, August 12, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The West Side will be closed from Friday, August 11, 10:00 PM to Monday, August 14, 5:00 AM.
Amid the road closures, MDOT provided the following diversions:
- EB I-696 traffic uses eastbound M-5 to eastbound M-102 (8 Mile Road), then northbound US-24 (Telegraph Road) southbound to southbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway/Northwestern Highway) and northbound Lahser Road eastbound I-696.
- Traffic from I-696 westbound uses US-24 (Telegraph Road) southbound to M-102 (8 Mile Road) westbound and then M-5 westbound to I-96/ I-696 westbound.
The closures are part of the I-696 Restore the Reuther Rebuilding Michigan project. MDOT says the impending closure is for various works, including pavement repairs to repair potholes in the work zone.
