A Metro bus became a crime scene after a passenger grabbed the driver by the neck and choked her, police said.
Los Angeles police investigators said the driver activated the silent alarm to alert police. She was able to close the bus doors to keep the attacker out. Officers said she suffered neck injuries. They tracked down the suspect and arrested him about four blocks from the bus.
“I was walking down here and I saw this guy trying to get on the bus,” witness David Fitch said. “The next thing I knew, there was a paramedic there, and then they took off. And then I heard the helicopters.”
A Metro spokesperson said the transit agency was “furious” about the attack.
“Metro is outraged by the senseless act of violence against our carrier and is grateful to all of our carriers who are addressing social issues while moving riders across our network,” the spokesperson wrote.
