MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis family is hoping for the best after their 20-year-old cat was taken from outside their home.

It happened shortly before 5:45 p.m. last Friday in the 3100 block of Humboldt Ave South.

Erika Brask says her cat, Silverton, briefly wandered from her backyard to the front of her home. Security footage shows a silver SUV pulling up to her house before a passenger gets out and takes the cat. The car sits still for a moment before driving away.

“I was just shocked, of course. She’s a 20-year-old cat — we’ve had her in the family our whole lives,” Brask said. “To think about not knowing what’s going on with her as a 20-year-old cat, it just makes me sick.”

Brask says she has filed a report with the Minneapolis police department and has notified local shelters and animal clinics. She hopes whoever took the cat believes it is a stray.

“Somebody knows something, knows the people that took her home or was with the person that took her, so please, I’m pleading with the public at this point,” Brask said.

She hopes that if anyone sees her cat, they will call All Paws Animal Hospital in St. Louis Park, the Minneapolis Animal Shelter or the Humane Society.

“We’re going to keep looking and hope that someone who feels they’re doing the right thing will come forward,” Brask said. “Honestly, we just want her back, no questions asked.”
