Anthony Edwards has been fined again by the NBA, this time for turning around on an official.

The NBA announced Monday that it had fined the Minnesota Timberwolves guard $50,000 for the gesture during Saturday’s 127-125 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. While on the sideline, Edwards knocked out a referee on an inbounds play.

After lowering his arm, he went in for another before his teammate Joe Ingles encouraged him to sit down.

The NBA fine is Edwards’ fifth of the season for various violations in 38 Timberwolves games. His impressive total now stands at $285,000.

Edwards was previously fined $100,000 on December 29 for using “profane language” during a post-match interview.

“I’ve got to go get it, s***,” Edwards said in a live TV interview after hitting a game-winner in a 113-112 win over the Rockets. “Nickeil [Alexander-Walker] found me. He interrupted me. I’m like, damn, I’m going for the win. As Gilbert Arenas said, “I don’t work overtime.” So fuck it.”

He was also fined $25,000 by the NBA for language he used in a post-game interview after a win over the Warriors.

Naz [Reid] and Julius [Randle] play fucking defense,” Edwards told reporters on Dec. 6. “I’ve never seen them play defense before. So that’s fucking incredible. And he’s here, put the camera on him. He’s protecting his ass.”

On December 21, Edwards was fined $75,000 for calling the officials “bloody awful” after a loss to the Warriors.

And it all started with another bird flight in November. In that case, a Kings fan in Sacramento was on the receiving end of his ire. That incident cost Edwards $35,000.

And that’s just this season. The fifth-year veteran has received multiple penalties in previous seasons throughout his career. But in 2024-2025 he will go to a new level.

His financial goal is bolstered by a five-year, $244.6 million extension to his rookie contract that will pay him $42.2 million this season. Edwards clearly finds value in using some of that money to express himself however he wants.
