Netanyahu will comment on the Gaza ceasefire once the deal is finalized

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will only make a statement on the ceasefire in Gaza once the final details are finalized, his office said.

The Prime Minister’s Office said late on Wednesday that the final details of the agreement were still being worked out.

According to the Israeli news website ynet, this concerns ‘technical details’, such as the precise composition of the list of Palestinian prisoners to be released.

Mediator Qatar said Israel and the Palestinian militant organization Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of more hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

The ceasefire will come into effect at 12:15 pm (1015 GMT) on Sunday and will initially last 42 days.

The agreement still requires approval from Israel’s security cabinet and the Israeli government.

According to Israeli media, the country will meet at 11 a.m. on Thursday to approve the deal. The government will also meet immediately afterwards. Approval is considered relatively certain.
