New storms hit parts of Spain, but relatively mild so far

Storms in Spain have again brought heavy rain and strong winds, just a fortnight after disastrous floods that killed at least 224 people.

The Andalusian province of Málaga in the south of the country has been badly hit, but so far there have been no reports of major damage or casualties.

In the Mediterranean region of Valencia in the east of the country, which was devastated two weeks ago, the effects of the new low-pressure system have been relatively mild so far.

The number of people killed in the storms two weeks ago has now risen to 224, including 216 in the province of Valencia alone, the regional government said on Thursday on X. Sixteen people are still missing.

Authorities are monitoring the levels of many rivers particularly closely in the Valencia and Andalusia regions, where orange and yellow warning levels are currently in place in coastal areas.

In the Valencia region, private cars are only allowed to be used in the evening and many schools remain closed in the affected regions. Public transport is also paralyzed in many places.
