NEW YORK — New York City joins communities around the world in recognizing International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.
In honor of this, several municipal buildings, including the town hall, were illuminated in yellow on Wednesday.
The day commemorates the beginning of a 1791 uprising among the enslaved people of Haiti, which eventually led to the Haitian Revolution and the abolition of slavery.
