An Olympic icon and a track star will headline the gymnastics competitions at the Summer Olympics in Paris on Saturday, with both the men’s and women’s individual apparatus finals getting underway. Saturday in Paris features the men’s floor exercise, women’s vault and men’s pommel horse.
Simone Biles finished first in the women’s vault final on Saturday to win her seventh Olympic gold medal and her third at the Paris Olympics.
Teammate Jade Carey won bronze, giving the US two spots on the podium. Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade won silver for her performance.
With her seventh gold medal, Biles added her case as perhaps the greatest Olympian of all time. Earlier at these Olympics in Paris, she led Team USA to a gold medal in the team competition and then won a second individual all-around gold medal. She is the oldest woman to win the total and only the third two-time winner.
Sharing the spotlight for Team USA is Stephen Nedoroscik, who has also collected some hardware of his own, winning a team bronze medal with the U.S. and tied for the top score in the men’s pommel horse qualification. He’s also seen as a near-certainty to make the podium and win a potential gold medal.
