One dead and one injured after a fire at a North Philadelphia row house early Saturday morning, police say

A man has died and a woman was taken to a hospital early Saturday morning after a fire at a North Philadelphia row house, police said.

Philadelphia police and the Philadelphia Fire Department responded to a townhome on the 2400 block of North 17th Street just before 4:30 a.m., according to a police news release.

When authorities arrived, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the home.

Police said one man died at the scene. His age and identity are currently unknown.

Authorities said a woman was also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire was under control just before five o’clock

No firefighters were injured and the cause is under investigation.
