Redding police arrested a woman on suspicion of driving under the influence on Thanksgiving Day after a crash that killed a pedestrian pushing a shopping cart on Lake Boulevard.

The accident happened Thursday just before 2 p.m. on Lake near Clay Street. Officers who arrived on the scene found the victim on the side of the road. The person, whom police did not name while family was notified, died at the scene, police said.

According to police, the victim was walking on the shoulder of Lake Boulevard and was pushing the shopping cart when a vehicle traveling west struck them.

The driver, Jessica Kathryn Remedios, 44, of Redding, did not stop and drove home, where officers found her, police said.

Remedios was booked into the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence and causing serious bodily injury or death, and a misdemeanor assault. Bail was set at $100,000.
