One man dead, one injured after shooting in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood: police

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – One man was killed and another injured in a shooting in Kensington in Philadelphia on Friday afternoon.

“We’ve never had anything like this in 50 years. Nothing,” said a neighbor.

Surveillance video captured the moment masked men held two people at gunpoint and walked them through the 2300 block of East Harold Street. In the video you see a gun pointed at one of their backs.

Police said a 20-year-old was killed after being shot in the head and neck. They also said a 19-year-old was shot in the leg and is in critical but stable condition at Temple University Hospital.

People who live nearby can’t believe this happened in their neighborhood.

“I heard some feet running past my house very quickly and a while after that I heard a lot of sirens,” said a neighbor. “I went out the door and realized it was here,” she said.

Police were able to watch a video and interview witnesses. They said no weapon was recovered.

People living in the area say this type of violence never happens on their street and that the neighbors stick together.

“All the neighbors are getting tall, they are very good to each other,” said one neighbor.

“Everyone really knows each other here. There are great neighbors pretty much everywhere,” said another neighbor.

Neighbors said they just wanted to help police and find out what was going on, but in the meantime, they still have a fear in the back of their minds.

“Afraid they would come back and do something else,” said a neighbor.

The police are still looking for those responsible. They have not released a motive.
