One person died Saturday morning after an “active shooter” and lockdown at a U.S. military installation in eastern Georgia.

Fort Eisenhower officials say one person was shot and killed inside the post’s housing, our sister station WSB-TV reported. The identity of that person has not been released.
The shooter is in custody and a Fort Eisenhower spokesperson says the incident is “isolated.”
They have not commented on the identity of the suspect or possible motives.

Officials posted on official social media pages that they had initiated lockdown procedures just before 9 a.m., WSB-TV reported
About an hour later, officials said “the dangerous event” had passed and the lockdown was lifted.
“Fort Eisenhower is actively supporting the victim’s family and assistance will be available to anyone affected by this tragedy. The safety of our residents and staff remains our primary concern,” a spokesperson wrote in a statement.
Initially, they told those “in danger” to “take appropriate action.”
A spokesperson for the installation told WJBF-TV that there was an “active threat” and that no one was allowed in or out of the post. The gates have now been opened again.
Fort Eisenhower is located near Augusta.
